You can see actual in-hand pictures of the Special Olympics Canada promotional bears from 1997 - 2005 by visiting Orion from Japan's website, Beanie Tenjishitsu (click here).

Bean Watcher comments:  (1) To read more about the Special Olympics Beanie Babies, click here to read a fantastic report, written in March 2001, from the now-retired beanbag site called CollectiblezSpot.net. (2) In 2005, Special Olympics Canada issued several random Beanie Babies with five special hang tags.  Unlike its previous promotions, Ty Inc. did not specifically designate the use of these assorted beanies for this promotion.

October 14:  Pictures of the Prototype Special Olympics Canada Bears
Representatives from Special Olympics Canada have allowed me to post pictures of the prototype Beanie Babies called Courageous, Courageously, and Courageousness.  These are not actual in-hand pictures, but mock-ups, designed to give others an idea of what the beanies will look like.  I have been told that the actual appearance of the bears will differ slightly from what is posted here.  According to the organization, official pictures will be posted on Ty.com in the near future, perhaps as early as next week.

What is known is that the new beanies are pot-belly bears, similar in appearance to Nigel.  A variation of the International Special Olympics logo is embroidered on each bear's chest.  The three versions differ by name, nose color, and tag information.  To see "mock up" pictures of Courageous, Courageously, and Courageousness, click on their names.

Bean Watcher comments:  (1) Many thanks to Special Olympics Canada for sharing these pictures with us! (2) To order the limited-edition Special Olympics Canada PROMOTIONAL bears, see my October 13, 2006 column below.  Approximately 300 complete sets were initially available. As of this writing, about 70 - 80 sets remain.

October 13:  Ordering Information for the Latest Special Olympics Canada Bears
Brian from Canada, a representative of Special Olympics Canada, shares the following ordering information about his organization's latest Beanie Baby charity promotions.  Of interest to collectors is that these Canadian promotions feature three unannounced Beanie Babies (Courageous, Courageously, and Courageousness).  Based on my phone call to Brian and an email he sent to me, here is the ordering information that I said I would post (see my October 11, 2006 column).  I have edited his email to make it easier to read:

The three new Beanie Babies are white pot-belly bears (same style as Nigel) with small red maple leaves (reminiscent of Chinook the bear) on their ears and footpads .  The new International Special Olympics logo is embroidered on the bear's chest (embroidery covers the bear's chest and stomach, much like the embroidery seen on Deuce the bear).  A separate teal and red ribbon are tied around the neck.  The colors of the noses of the three different styles differ.  Their names and a description of the promotions are provided below:

Name -- Courageous.  Gold nose.
  • Wording on inner left side of hang tag:  Gold medal for bravery - Special Olympics Canadian Exclusive
  • Wording on right side under the poem:  a holographic label with the Number out of 333 (added by the charity).
  •
    Name -- Courageously.  Silver nose.
  • Wording on inner left side of hang tag:  Silver medal for bravery - Special Olympics Canadian Exclusive.
  • Wording on right side under poem:  a holographic label with the Number out of 333 (added by the charity).
  •
    Name - Courageousness.  Bronze nose.
  • Wording inner left side of hang tag: Bronze medal for bravery - Special Olympics Canadian Exclusive.
  • Wording on right side under poem:  a holographic label with the Number out of 333 (added by the charity).
  •
Special Olympics Canada has added a gold medal dog tag to its promotion.  The tag has the following words:

    COLLECTORS EDITION
Underneath Collectors Edition is the Special Olympics Canada logo
    Limited to 1000

The price for the set of three promotional bears is $210 (US) plus $15 (US) shipping.  The monies raised will support this charity.  Fewer than 333 complete sets are available, since some sets will be separated to sell single bears.  You can place your order by phone by calling:

    1-905-474-9019

Special Olympics Canada will take credit card orders from 9 AM to 9 PM (Toronto, Canada time).  Sets are selling very fast and by the time an international Money Order arrives, the charity may not be able to fill your order.  For more information, please contact Brian at bduquette@specialolympics.ca

Bean Watcher comment:  I have seen photographs of the three new Beanie Babies.  I will not be posting these pictures until a later time or after they first appear elsewhere on the internet.  I do not want to adversely impact this well-respected charity's fundraising efforts.

    Happy Collecting!
